About Rose Bonomo
Rosabode is the latest on Rose Bonomo’s long and winding career path. Growing up on Long Island, Rose aspired to be an actress/dancer and wanted nothing more than to get up on stage with the Rockettes. She attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and went on to dance the coveted role of “Daffy Duck” in the Bugs Bunny Follies.
Good bye stage. Hello, fashion. Her next foray was being a make up artist in New York City working with magazines such as English, French, German and American Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Mademoiselle, and companies such as Estee Lauder, Revlon and Charles of the Ritz. It was a career that brought much joy, travel and adventure.
Wanting to make a change, in the mid 80’s Rose returned to school, got her degree in Human Movement Studies and became one of New York’s first Personal Trainers. She had a wonderful midtown studio called “Custom Fitness” that catered to singers, actresses, and anyone else who wanted to get in shape while having a good laugh.
In 1993, she and her small family packed it up and headed for Portland, Oregon.
In Portland, Rose kept busy raising two children and dabbling in several other professions, such as, research, events and catering. In 2004, she was one of the creators of SALSA EN LA CALLE, a free outdoor salsa event that continues today.
In 2005, after Rose and her husband had decided to divorce, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Chemotherapy, surgery and radiation followed and it was a very difficult time.
Today, Rose is happy and healthy and grateful to have those events well behind her. She believes that rosabode came about organically. “Since my brush with adversity, creating things that comfort people became a directive. I am certain that being soothed is part of the healing process.”
